Resume

Hey! I like a good challenge and task management. I’m a graphic designer for SAPP Zine in New Westminster, and I usually take leadership roles in team projects. I’m a people-oriented person, and want to aid people with self-expression. I am passionate about magazines and have made my own zines in the past, as well as am in the midst of making my own called ‘Capsule Zine’ and ‘Damn b*itch? You live like this?’

Q: How do you aim to improve our writing? (Article Pitches, Journalistic Standard, etc.)
A: I think from all the articles I’ve been reading, they’ve been mostly focused on information. It would be nice to have a little space to feature a writer to write about a topic that may be niche or interesting to educate others on, like a niche lecture corner (ie. a certain game that someone is passionate about, someone’s experiences recently, etc. It would be nice to have a balance between journalism and personal expression through writing.

Q: How do you aim to improve our design (Illustrations, Print Layouts, Photography, etc.)
A: I really enjoy the layouts the courier has been playing with, however, I would find it very impactful if in every issue there were one or two pages that really experimented with the layout and pushed a more artistic agenda that focuses on the visual of the layouts. The photography for the courier covers has been beautiful, so it would be amazing to push more of that photography inside the issue. One inspiration I have is “apartamento”, which leaves room for the photography to breathe to create a strong impact on the writings following them.

Q:How do you aim to improve our videography (Youtube Videos, Instagram Reels, etc.)
A: I love the editing that the Instagram rolls out, however, I find that the covers and the designs of the posts don’t reflect the uniqueness of Capilano Courier. Capilano Courier has one of the most unique courier designs that came from any university, with fresh young minds behind the project and a good art direction, which is why I feel your social media should reflect that uniqueness. Some video teasers for the courier would be fun (like the one you guys did for Clarity!), and teasing a little bit of the content in a fun collage video way.

Q: How do you aim to improve our zine (Design, Layout, Copywriting, etc.)
A: C.C Crumb has very unique designs, but I find that it misses a sense of cohesion between each volume makes the zine lose its potential. It would be fun to enhance the authenticity that C.C Crumb has, and adding more layouts and contrast would help with the reading experience of the zine, not to just make it look cool but also a pleasant reading experience! Encouraging more students who might feel afraid to write for the Courier to test the waters through C.C Crumb would make its contribution even more valuable, and play with the artistic value of a zine.

Q: How do you aim to improve our social media (Post/Reel Quality, Followers, Frequency, etc.)
A: Like I mentioned, the design of the posts are cohesive in some but not for all. It would be interesting to find more ways to engage with followers of the Courier and add more interaction, as well as posting stories frequently to bring attention to Capilano news would make the Courier more special and strengthen its collection to the university.

Final Notes:
I think every position that is currently in the Capilano Courier doesn’t need to be cut and is integral to the courier’s success! Thank you for taking your time to read my application <3 Big fan of the courier and C.C Crumb 🙂 MUCH LOVE!

Upcoming Tabling Hours: Thursdays, 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at either the Learning Commons entrance (LB 126) or Birch Cafeteria.
