Anyone who meets the following qualifications may run in the election:
- Must be a current Capilano University student or alumni who graduated within the last year.
- Must have contributed to the Courier at least three times in any capacity.
- Must not be a CSU employee.
- Must not be employed by Capilano University.
The deadline to apply was March 13th, so applications are now closed.

Candidate: Laura Morales Padilla
“I started contributing to the Courier as an illustrator in 2022. At the time, I also worked at CapU’s Centre for International Experience—the department in charge of recruiting international students. This is where my passion for journalism comes from; I felt the responsibility to expose the unfair practices I witnessed. I am grateful to the EIC who, upon hearing my first pitch three years ago, refused to take the story unless I wrote it myself. I haven’t stopped writing since. The Courier gave me the tools and support I needed to expose the corruption in the CSU, to support student employees’ unionizing, to question how decisions are made at Senate, and to report on the many layers of injustice that international students experience. I want to give other people the same opportunities, and use my experience as a contributor, news writer, video production manager, and Co-EIC to help amplify the many other important stories that impact our community, even with a reduced budget.”
