Capilano University has recruited new students for its sports teams. Get to meet them here, with short interviews featuring Ella Green and Liam Martin.

Ella Green is from Kelowna, BC. In the fall 2024 term, she plans to study kinesiology and is very excited to say that she will be playing for the Capilano women’s volleyball team. Green says volleyball has always been her big passion. Although she played many sports when she was younger — volleyball was the one that stood out the most over the years. She loves volleyball because of the many opportunities it has provided, one of them being that she has made numerous friends across Canada and even some in the United States due to indoor and beach volleyball tournaments.
The things she is most excited about attending Capilano University are building strong connections with the volleyball team and creating many memorable experiences on and off the volleyball court. What really stood out to her was the campus itself because she loves the forestry and the small pathways between buildings. Green insists that what truly makes a great team — is communication and inclusivity. To build and grow as a team, communication is crucial; talking to one another and sharing ideas or concerns can significantly impact a team’s success.
Moreover, inclusivity is equally important as it can transform the team’s atmosphere. Green stated that “to realize the full potential of a team; everyone must work together as a cohesive unit, allowing each person to build off one another and continuously progress in the right direction”.
Liam Martin will be playing for the men’s volleyball team. He started volleyball in seventh grade when he tried out for his school team and realized his talent for the sport. This motivated him to try out for the PGYVC Kodiaks in Prince George, BC.
He is most excited to move to North Vancouver from the small town of Prince George. Out of the various schools he got offers from, Capilano University stood out to him because of the forested campus. Being from up north — he’s used to plenty of trees around him — and it really helped him feel super comfortable with everything Capilano University had to offer.
In his experience, the best teams he has been a part of don’t solely rely on skill; the whole team really needs to be great friends on and off the court. Teams that get along off the court and want to get together in their free time often see more success than the ones who don’t.
With new students, new potential arrives at CapU so athletes and students can look forward to the upcoming sports season.
